When major corporations and small businesses alike need to promote their most important products with high-end, engaging user experiences that combine multiple media formats with dynamic data and motion graphics they must make tough decisions on which rich client technologies they should bet their business on.
Like so many other companies, Microsoft chooses Flash. Can you blame them?

It was a .. “would you kill your dog to save you daughter” situation :D poor silverlight dog.
Bottom line Vista has credibility issues on his own as an os, so further problems even with the site had to be dodged. And Flash was there to save the day :)
MS was probably too embarrassed using Flash…it seems they recently changed it to Silverlight :)
I totally agree with you Mike. But I don´t know why they burned money for silverlight!!! Flash is know for it´s advantages, the marketing firm realized it, too and everybody knows it. So what for silverlight when it doesn´t work when microsoft needed it.

Silverlight version is much, much better. Take a look at the DeepZoom technology being used and you’ll see why. Try doing this in Flash!
As flash developers we all know why Flash is so much better, but for end users like our moms and dads they don’t see any difference. If it is moving around then the cool factor is there. Now with that said, I think it is great that Microsoft wants to go toe to toe with Adobe. And well with AIR it looks like Adobe is stepping into Microsoft’s domain as well. My opinion, we all could use a little fire under our butts to push us to be the best. Don’t get me wrong Silver Light doesn’t stand a chance in this war. When it comes to AIR it may be able to take off, but we need to help push it in our Flash sites. Be cool guys. ~ BeSiK
