Essential ActionScript 3.0 by Colin Moock a best seller
As of 6:20pm Dallas time on July 18, Colin Moock’s latest book, “Essential ActionScript 3.0” is number four on Amazon’s best-seller list. Tim O’Reilly hasn’t confirmed this on his blog yet, like he did with “Programming Flex 2″ by Chafic Kazoun and Joey Lott, but I am hearing rumors that Colin’s book may be trending towards an all-time best-seller for O’Reilly. Awesome.
This supports a trend that we’ve been seeing. Flex is hot – ActionScript 3.0 is hot, and Adobe AIR is bringing whole new crowds of web developers over to check out Flex, Flash, and ActionScript 3.0.
By the way, thanks to Colin for mentioning my name in the beginning of the book. It’s pretty cool to see your name printed in a best-selling book.
Congratulations, Colin! I know writing this book was a ton of work but it will surely be the one book that every ActionScript developer will want to have on their desks. Great work.

I had this book on preorder, and even though it’s supposedly in stock, Amazon is still telling me the shipping date is expected to be Sept 13!!
When I queried them about my order, their response was:

> order. We still expect to be able to deliver your order to you by

So … I’m glad that the book is incredibly popular (props to Colin!), but there seems to be a kink somewhere in getting the books from O’Reilly to Amazon (at least according to Amazon.)

I had the same thing with Amazon, but I heard that others have successfully cancelled their pre-order, then re-ordered it…they apparently received it in a few days.
Weird. Huh. But supposedly it worked. I got the Oreilly Rough Cuts pdf…nice to be able to search the .pdf.

I’ve been studying OOP principles for about a year and this book has really filled in the gaps for me. Other texts seemed to either obscure simple concepts with complexity or fail to cover topics with enough detail.
Moock’s book is very well balanced and straightforward.
I too canceled my pre-order and received the book three weeks earlier than the estimated shipping date.

This is my 3rd purchase in the series of books authored by Moock and put out by O’Reilly. Actually the 4th(bought a second copy of EAS2 after ‘loaning’ it out and never getting it back).
Kudos to Moock and all the contributors for making this series a must have for every serious flash developer.
