Flash Player security update

We have recently released security updates to the Flash Player. If you are using Flash 8 or Flash MX 2004 you can get updaters for the test movie player here.

Critical vulnerabilities have been identified in Flash Player that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities to take control of the affected system. A malicious SWF must be loaded in Flash Player by the user for an attacker to exploit these vulnerabilities. Users are recommended to update to the most current version of Flash Player available for their platform.

If you’re experincing problems using ‘Flash Plugin Switcher 2.1′ after installing 8.0.24 read article below: ‘Flash and Flex developers may need to make slight modifications to their normal methods of switching between player versions during testing to account for this change.’

but I guess/hope player 8.5 may go live soon? ;-)

Mike- any reason you folks have to have the Yahoo tool bar option on the page in the checked on state?

I consider it Spam when I send people to your site to download the Flash plug-in. I always tell them to uncheck it. It is invasive, and seems a bit out of place and intrusive…need I say more.

    Regards
    Steve

  3. Mike, I personally think it took a little too long and the communication was poor to let the users of the IDE know about this test movie patch. Updating the test movie player was the first thing I thought about when I updated my web player several days ago, and figured I was doing something wrong because my test movie player was still 8.22.0

Unless you hit blogs continously, you’d probably never know your test player is vulnerable.

    Thanks!

  4. [In future releases of Flash we actually intend to adopt the Adobe Update Manager]

This is great to know!! I would just think some people new to Flash would benefit from more specific link titles, e.g., at the top of this page http://www.macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
the box says “Get the latest version
Download the most recent version of Macromedia Flash Player.”

I think it should maybe add “for your web player…see below to update your Flash IDE test player or standalone”. I was abnormally busy the last two weeks and should have read the entire page more carefully. My bad. Thanks very much!

    Hi:
If you could help me with some problem I have:
I build sites not for the web but in cd-rom, using flash, and when I upgaded my flash viewer to the version 9 the targets stop working. Instead of opening the page on the frame I set the name of, it opens a new window, all the flash animations now look slow and the sound de-syncs, this of course ruins my work in cd-rom, and ruins all the cd-rom’s I’ve made and deliver to my clients, becouse they will stop working when my clients upgrade their PC’s. This problem fixes when I use flash viewer 5,6,7,8 so i had to uninstall flash viewer 9 in order to continue working.
When I publish the same site on the web it works correctly but, what I need is working in cd-roms. I urgently need you to tell me whats going on in order to continue my work. I use Flash 5, Windows 98SE, and Internet Explorer 5.00.2614.3500

I am having a problem updating security flash player from Microsoft Update. Everytime I go to update it, after I am being prompted to do so, I get a message that it failed to update. The yellow shield with an exclimation mark in it keeps appearing in my task bar at the bottom of my screen. Is there a fix for this?
    Thanks
    Chris
