Flash Lite 2 for sale at macromedia.com

I’m sure this has already been thoroughly reported, but while browsing our online store I just noticed that Flash Lite 2 is posted for sale for US$10.

If you have a compatible phone you can now build mobile Flash content using, among other great features, ActionScript 2.0! Woo-hoo!

I can’t wait to see what the community creates with this.

Get Flash Lite 2 here.

Mike, yes, Bill posted about it before the holidays … an early christmas present if you will.

This is good news for diehard Flash Lite 1.1 developers, hardcore AS2 folks, as well as attracting more J2ME developers to the platform.

As an aside, I hope Adobe will not be charging after this release. My understanding is that (some) royalties will be made when 1.1 preinstalled Nokia phones ship this year … and then I assume later next year with higher end Nokia phones with FL2.

… I still get funny looks when (mobile) folks ask me why they are paying for the lite player when it’s free on the desktop.

I’d still wait on ordering it at the Store, though, until the official announcement… the full news should be quite soon now….

    Hi Scott -

The $10 fee is only for developers who want to purchase the full standalone for testing purposes. The player offered on the store is not intended for general consumer consumption. In those cases Adobe is licensing the player directly to the device manufacturers and carriers.

If you get funny looks from mobile developers, tell them that their end users won’t be paying for the player just as they don’t pay for the web plugin.

    Hi Mike

On Max you presented Flash Lite 2.0 with some kin of small camera you attached on the mobile device it self and it was then possible to show the display via a projector.

Can you tell me the name of this camera as I would really like to get one.

    Thanks!

    /Jesper

Ps. I am the guy who asked you about when Flash Lite and “regular” Flash version will go along at the “Birds-of-a-Feather” session - just if who should remember… ;-)
