Source FLAs available for Adobe Photoshop CS2 Flash Web Photo Gallery wizard

One of the lesser-known new features of Photoshop CS2 is the Flash Web Photo Gallery wizard.

PS_flashphotogallery.jpg

It lets you produce some very nice Flash-based photo galleries using a simple dialog launched from Photoshop. To access it, go to “File > Automate > Web Photo Gallery…” and choose “Flash - Gallery 1″ or “Flash - Gallery 2″ from the “Styles” drop down.

Adobe has now posted the source files for these templates so Flash users can customize them.

    Hey there Mike! Long time, no see bud! How are you and Greg R. doing? I miss coming to the seminars, and seeing you demo the latest in Flash. Been busy doing websites and all lately.

    Thanks for this tidbit on Photoshop’s Flash Gallery (and the accompanying download link), I think I may have found a new tool to use for a few of my clients!

    Anyhow, please e-mail me back when you get a chance. We’ll have to go to Geno’s Steaks when you come to Philly again.

    Hope to hear from you soon!

    Sincerely,
    Brian K. James

    I’m taking a course in advanced digital imaging, and we are working with the web galleries. Since I have cs2 my teacher recommended that I use the ‘flash’ feature. I noticed that ‘audio’ could also be added, but I can’t find any thing about this. I added an audio file to the web gallery folder, but how do you activate it? Could you recommend reading on this subject. Thanks, Susan Felts

    I’m having trouble with the new Flash templates. All the other html ones work ok. I’m not sure if I put all the unzipped folder items in the correct spot. I also don’t get the thumbnail and description shown above when I select any of the 3 templates. I’m on Windows XP if that matters here. Thanks.

    I should mention that when I try and assemble any of the 3 Galleries and finish them in PS, the completed Index page won’t open. In IE I get a blank white page and the small error “!” at the bottom left. I can however, open any of the 3 samples that came with the 3 Galleries. Their Indexes open ok. Something I must have done wrong in the install? I have PS 8CS and Flash MX.

    Cheers for the tip off on the Flash web galleries, but I am struggling finding a way to customise where the controller sits on the page. Instead of having it float around on resize, I want it to stay put below the gallery. Any idea which file has the code and what I need to amend?

    I figured out that the PS8 I had was a corrupt install. I put in PS9 CS and now they all work as they are supposed to.

    I can’t get the Flash - Gallery 1 or 2 to work on either a Windows XP or Macintosh X computer. At first I thought it was a problem with my Mac, but when I went to use it on the PC it didn’t work either. I also tried to download the links provided for the source code. That didn’t work either.

    this galleries are wonderful, I’ll share with you the few simple problems I could resolve and I’ll ask help for one I can’t:

    I got to change the fonts adding the final string of the sample gallery galleryconfig.xml to mine (and changing the font if you want), also in galleryconfig.xml I could manage to make flash buttons on the bottom-right bigger and change distance and rotation of thumbnails.

    One thing I can’t get to work is the email link of the third gallery, it’s not working, I tried with gallery2 and it works if you add your email in photos.xml, but if I copy all the banner strings to photos.xml of gallery3 it still doesn’t work.

    Does anyone know how to make it work?

    thanks
    Andrea

    Hi I’ve been trying to find out how to load a “PS CS2 flash 2″ photo gallery into an already running .swf file. I have the structure in my main .swf file right, becuase it will load other .swf files, but when I try to have it load the “gallery.swf” file created by PS I get the error “Can not open URL …/thumbnails”. I don’t know if it has to do with the javascript files it’s calling. The way I’m loading the .swf file is through the loadMovie() function in Flash 8 Pro. Can anyone help please?

    I was just wondering how I can get this file to work on my website? I have a main page and I want to link to the different gallery’s but it only gives me an index page and freewebs (the hosting site I go through) won’t let me see it. I try to change the “index.htm” to “architecture.htm” but that won’t work either and I don’t have any way of using http://ftp. Is there another way?

    Hi everyone,

    For those having trouble loading the gallery externally from another .swf, I have part of the solution, yet I need help for the last bit of it! Here it goes: in your source folder/_as/ you need to change in coreFunctions.as those two lines:

    if(photosXmlFile == undefined)_global.photosXmlFile = “yourGalleryFolder/photos.xml”;
    if(configXmlFile == undefined) _global.configXmlFile = “yourGalleryFolder/galleryconfig.xml”;

    Then recompile the .fla to replace gallery.swf .

    Second, in the photos.xml file, you need to change these lines:

    Everything loads fine for me, yet I can’t get the large versions of the pictures to appear when I try to enlarge a thumbnail !?!

    Anyone can help me on this??

    Could someone be so kind in helping me set the ‘Photoshop Flash web glallery 3′ to transparent.

    I have added the following line to the html page but with no luck on IE6 or any other browsers.
    ” myFlashObject.addPara (”wmode”, “transparent”); ”

    Do I need to add something to the javascript file as well?
    Any help would be most appreciated.

    This answer does nothing. The overflow function simply hides content from displaying a content block past a defined area. There is more to it like this

    When I changed to block I got scrollbars but other problems were introduced.

    It blows my mind that the template disables scrolling. It makes this solution worthless. I have been scouring the code with no success yet.

    Dear All,

    i’ve generated a webgallery with cs2 and all works fine but i’m opening the index.htm into a frame which is about the lower 80% of the screen, but i cannot get it centered, it’s also impossible to get any scrollbars..

    i’ve already tried

    and took out overflow: hidden;

    but nothing helps, it seems that the leftbordermargin from galleryconfig.xml is overruling all this.. but even disabling that line doesn’t help..

    Has anyone come up with a method to make this transparent?

  46. on 20 Sep 2007 at 7:44 am 46.Jason said …

    To make it transparent, add the wmode = transparent code to the javascript (on your index page) as well. This is because this is the code that loads for everyone that has javascript enabled. So adding it to the noscript portion could only be seen if you disabled JS. Here’s what I added to the “CDATA” code to make this work:

    myFlashObject.addParam(”wmode”, “transparent”);

    To center it, I’m doing a cheezy hack, but it works. I’ve got the flash file in an iframe, and then I offset the body of the entire document (that contains the flash) with CSS until it perfectly fits where I want it to. Like this:
    body {margin: 250px 250px 250px 250px;} Obviously, adjust these values as needed.

    As far as the autostart functionality goes, that’s why I was reading this thread. Sadly no one seems to know. Will keep digging…

    For all those who want the slideshow to start automatically, this should work: put this controller_mc.startSlideshow(); on the third frame in the fla-File after selectFirstImage ();"
