By the way, if anyone knows who built this please let me know. I’d love to talk with the developers.

Talented design shop and animation studio, Nectarine, is at it again (see MXDU keynote openers) with this new animated short that they have produced for network television.

From their website:

Real World is a 4 minute animation created by Nectarine for Film Victoria’s “Four Minute Wonders” program. It’s our visual response to the song ‘Little Town’ by Amalia Fitzgerald.

Real World uses Apple’s recently released Motion software to bring together plasticene models, Flash-generated 2D animation, and 3D objects. The editing was done with Final Cut Pro, and output at 1024 x 576 for digital hi-res broadcasting.

[Flash video] New Ford Mustang microsite

mustang_site.jpg
I found this through my regular check of 2advanced.com’s portfolio page (I love their work). It looks like they built yet another cool microsite for Ford Motor Company which shows off the new 2006 2005 Ford Mustang.

I really like the use of short, quickly downloaded, high-quality videos used to provide a better visualization of the new car. One of my favorite sections on the site is “Sound”. Catering to the target customer (someone like me), they are effectively communicating the experience of the raw horsepower (insert Tim Allen-style grunting here…).

I’m a long-time fan of the Ford Mustang (I’ve owned three, including my current baby, the Roush Stage 3 but I’m not sure that I really dig the new body style of the 2006. This may finally convince me that it’s time for a SUV…

I found Flash content on Apple’s website

dot_mac.jpg
I’ve always found it kind of interesting that Apple seems to have no Flash content on their website. Even Microsoft doesn’t use Windows Media for everything. Of course we don’t really use anything other than Flash, HTML, and CSS on our own site (as far as I can tell). We did use Quicktime for a lot of our learning content before we added video support to Flash Player, though.

In any case… While having a discussion about this at lunch today, one of our developers mentioned that Apple uses Flash for their .Mac learning center.

Cool!

… Coincidentally, I decided to sign up for a .Mac account today. :)
UPDATE: here’s some even better Flash content on apple.com - http://www.apple.com/education/hed/students/ (thanks Robertson!)

Yahoo’s Netrospective: 10 years, 100 moments of the Web

I just found this on my Y! homepage. It’s a simple app (similar to the Flash Video Gallery) that walks users through Yahoo’s choices for the top 100 moments on the Web. It’s kind of a fun walk through the last 10 years. Sad to see that “NakedNews”, the “dancing baby” and “Hot or Not” made the list. :)

What do you think was the most interesting moment in Web history? I think my favorite was the dotcom launch party. I don’t remember which dotbomb it was, but I remember one spending more than half of their VC, upwards of $50M, on their launch party in Vegas. Good times…
