My blog’s focus is changing – slightly

January 29th, 2005 by mike downey Leave a reply »

In addition to my usual posts about notable items in the world of Flash, I’ve decided that I’d like to start posting about topics relating to product management, marketing, and general business items.

There are already a high concentration of blogs dedicated to specific technical issues related to Flash so I thought I’d start to share notable items from more of a technical marketer’s perspective.

I’m also going to try to move the more technical topics from my blog to the Flashteam blog, which I also maintain.

Let me know if you have any suggestions.

It is a good idea to review the flash product from this concept,as it really needs some follow up.

Kind of like joelonsoftware.com? Joel being a former Microsoft product manager (Excel), and now software company founder (fogcreek.com). I love his recent post on the complexities of software product pricing (http://joelonsoftware.com/articles/CamelsandRubberDuckies.html).

A product management issue you might comment on is how decisions are made regarding releasing new features and feature upgrades. For instance how is it decided what goes into interim releases (and DRKs), versus being held for the next major version release.

I am currently working on components and two topics I am interested to learn more about are:

    1) Will Flex and Flash components eventually be conformed? (My sense is that there are currently two different branches on the components code base, with Flex having the more current which have not yet been released for Flash.)

    2) Will the Flash Communication Components be updated to the V2 architecture at the FlashCom Server’s next version release?

Good luck with the new direction in your blogging. It should prove very interesting for the entire community.
