[Video] Flash Video Kit - really cool!
I’ve been working on this project for months and I am so happy to say that, after much blood sweat and tears, the Flash Video Kit is officially announced and will be shipping very soon.
The team is so proud of this kit release. Customers who purchase Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional between now and September 30, 2004 will receive the video kit which includes:
- An extension for Dreamweaver that allows any user to very simply add Flash video to their web site using one of two professionally designed player skins.
- A copy of Sorenson Squeeze 4 Lite for compressing videos to Flash Video (FLV) files
- A free 15-day trial of the Flash Video Streaming Service Lite powered by Vitalstream
- An extensive video primer whitepaper
If you already own Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional you can purchase the video kit for $49 starting September 1, 2004.

I have a tendency not to save something that I have if I got it online. A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded the flash video exporter on one of the computers here at the office. We got a site license for every machine here with studioMX 2004 and flash professional (though we really only needed flash pro), so it installed fine. Now I am putting more developers on video projects, and I can’t find the flv exporter anywhere, but there is the new video kit that we have to pay for? Did we lose something here or did the google search for the flv exporter just not have the right keywords. I remember hearing so much about why flash was the new video platform at FFNY this year, but I didn’t hear about how it was an extra cost add on product. Is the old exporter available for download, or did the faithful early adopters of flash mx 2004 (pre-7.01) just lose out again while new customers get a free video kit when they register?

The FLV Exporter *only* comes with the installer for Flash MX Professional 2004. It comes either on the CD for Flash Pro or in the zip file when you download the installer electronically (including the free trial version).
If you can’t find it on your CD, just download the free trial of Flash Pro and you should find it there. The FLV Exporter only works if it finds Flash Pro installed on your system.
The video kit has nothing to do with the FLV Exporter - other than the fact that it comes on the CD of Flash Pro when you purchase Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional. We bundled Sorenson Squeeze 4 Lite with the video kit because we knew not everyone would have a video editor that the FLV Exporter can plug into. Macromedia does not yet have a stand-alone application for encoding FLV files - aside from importing video into Flash and re-exporting it from the library as Flash video (although I do not recommend this cludgy workflow). We’re working on a stand-alone solution to be released in the future.
If you want to use the FLV Exporter you need to have one of the supported video editors installed on your system, including Quicktime Pro ($29), Final Cut, Premiere 6.5, Pinnacle Liquid Edition 5.5, Avid Xpress, etc.
Of course, you can also purchase Squeeze 4 from Sorenson. It’s a great app.

hmmm… sorry my bad. I’ve just seen so much stuff offered for free and then taken away that I get used to it and expect it as the evil behavior of corporations. I guess that’s what I get for using macs
anyways found it on the cd… thanks. Still I think you should give the people who bought studio mx2004 w/flash pro the same things you give new customers who buy the same thing

The video kit is available for registered owners of Studio MX 2004 with Flash Professional for US$49 until 9/30/2004. It’s a sales promotion so we are not going to give it away for free to everyone who has already purchased. There’s nothing unusual about that.

I’ve been looking around and I can’t seem to figure out what I need to incorporate Flash Video on my site. I’d like to know exactly what I will need to do the following:
Have flash video playing in a .swf that is on my site. My site is basically all flash and I’d like to have some flash video in there.
I have Macromedia Flash MX (6.0) and Dreamweaver MX (7.0.1).
What do I need to buy?

I just downloaded the FLV exporter and am using it with QuickTime pro 6.5.1. I was able to create the .flv file and incorporate that into my flash piece. All works well except that i have this big redish X over the video. Is this telling me that I dont have a REAL copy of the exporter or something?
