[Flash Player] The new NPD research statistics are in for Flash Player penetration

April 26th, 2004 by mike downey Leave a reply »

We posted the updated player penetration survey results today. The survey was taken in March 2004 by NPD Online Research.

Here’s a quick summary (worldwide averages):
Flash Player 7: 52.5%
Flash Player 6: 93.5%
Earlier versions: 98%

The December survey showed Flash Player 7 at approximately 34% penetration, so this growth rate is very nice to see.

wow Mike, F7 penetration rates look very promising indeed!

Looking forward to seeing how the auto-update will improve adoption rates with the next major Flash player release. Are there any preliminary statistics on that to see if there is an increased adoption of minor releases?

I’m also looking forward to tracking the auto-update results. I haven’t heard of any related numbers yet, but as soon as I have something I’ll be sure to post it.

Keep in mind, also, that auto-update is currently limited to Windows. I don’t recall exactly why it does not work on the Mac, but I have a hunch that it has to do with a limitation of the OS. I’ll see if I can dig up the details.

I’m concerned about penetration with the US government, particularly the DoD. I’m unable to field Flex applications due to restrictions that have been placed on the use of the Flash player. Any news on this front?
