[Video] Taking Flash video to the next level
Macromedia is fortunate to attract some of the most brilliant and creative minds in the industry. We have been putting many of those brilliant minds to work on finding ways to make the Flash video platform even better - in fact, make it the best (of course some of us think it already is!).
We’re not ready to reveal some of our ideas yet, but I’d like to give some of you in the community a chance to voice your opinion. Please post some comments with your ideas for Flash video. Do you have ideas for new authoring features in Flash? How about other tools? Do you have ideas for codecs, streaming, hosting, etc.? What about making great experiences like Red Bull Copilot easier to build? How can we make that happen?

Cheers Flash Video Team… my suggestion is for you to reach out to hosting companies and make sure they know how to serve flv files. My host might be an exception, but their perception was that flv files were streaming files, so they’ve banned them. My efforts to convince them otherwise have fallen on deaf ears.
Truly deeply love the video stuff… thanks for all your work.

The ability to trigger FullScreen display of video via ActionScript would make it much easier to sell Flash for streaming video.
Most computers have big resolutions these days. A 480×360 pixel video isn’t really big on an ordinary screen, so to get a feeling of “TV” on the PC, you need to be able to go fullscreen. If the video is displayed fullscreen, some smart scaling would also be required for this to look good.
This is hard to build into the player, but it would certainly make Flash video much easier to sell to broadband users. Seen iChat AV? 160 by 120 pixel Flashcom streaming look sort of childish next to the fullscreen, fullmotion video on a iChat video chat. Better scaling of video and/or fullscreen possibilities would make Flash look much better!

Fullscreen display of video is possible with Flash. I’m guessing that you’d like to see it made easier to do? A Flash developer could also set it up so that, on the triggering of the fullscreen event, the player switches streams to a higher quality. I’ll make a note that fullscreen playback is important and perhaps we can do something with a component.
By the way, the media playback component included with Flash Professional includes a fullscreen toggle in the upper-right hand corner of the component.

Scaling quality is about my only real complaint with Flash video. There doesn’t appear to be any attempt to interpolate the pixels, and so displaying video at a non-native size looks worse in Flash than any other player (Quicktime, Real or WMP)

for full screen i would recommend http://www.foxnews.com, not dealing with streaming media or anything, but i like the way their player handles fullscreen, on click event, it opens up a simple popup and a new player with width and height set to 100%!!!
